when choosing a dance studio for their child:

How big are the classes?

Class size is important for those just starting dance instruction.  The ratio of students to teachers should be so that each child receives personal attention, fostering creativity and a fun environment in which to learn.  For ages 5 and under, our classes are limited to six dancers with two teachers in the room.  For ages 6-8 years old, the classes are limited to twelve dancers with two teachers in the room.

If most dance studios seem to have qualified, friendly teachers, experience teaching children and a production at the end of the year, how do you choose which school is the best for you? Does it really matter where you decide to enroll?  Of course! There are certain things that can make a huge difference in the quality of instruction your child receives, the amount of extra work and hassle the parents must deal with, and the overall enjoyment and satisfaction of being involved with a dance program. Here are 4 things that every parent should consider before deciding on a dance studio for their child.

What are the "extras" at the end of the year?

Most studios put on a year-end production in a professional theatre. Students performing in the show must have a costume for their dance number.  Some studios may require parents to sew their child's costumes or find a seamstress to do the sewing.  This can be inconvenient and frustrating for parents who are busy or can't sew.  Most studios also require parents to purchase tickets for the performance night or to wait in long lines to get reserved seats for the show.  Our studio takes care of all costume hassles, giving the parents a completed costume without their ever having to worry.  We also have a very organized process for handing out reserved seats, giving every parent at least two tickets to every show for FREE. You will be able to sit back and enjoy the show!

How is their customer service?

Many studios fail to answer messages quickly, especially in the summer months.  In addition, some studios have not caught up with the latest technology, such as email and online statements.  We have a full-time desk staff during all class times to facilitate communication.  Our studio is one of few who makes sure to answer all questions by the end of the day, as it is a key element of keeping our customers happy.  We check email many times throughout the day, and each teacher at the studio has an individual email address.  In addition, the faculty is trained to treat all students and parents with respect.

How are the facilities?

All studios are very different in this aspect of instruction.  Some common things to search for are cleanliness; a bright, decorative atmosphere; and professional dance flooring.  Our studios have an in-house cleaning staff who keep all rooms in the studio clean and safe for those "little" hands.  Also, each room is themed by color and feature bright, airy windows for natural light.  Finally, our flooring is raised, Marley sub-flooring, which provides shock absorption for the older dancers.  Our 5-under classroom boasts a patterned flooring for stimulation and teaching exercises.
